Dental examination and diagnosis – a comprehensive dental exam will be performed at your initial dental visit. At your regular six monthly check up exam, our dentists perform an examination of the teeth and entire oral cavity to check for dental decay, gum disease and oral or mouth cancer.

Digital radiography (digital X-ray) – this is the latest technology used to take dental X-rays. The technique uses an electronic sensor (instead of X-ray film) to capture and store digital images on a computer. Dental X-rays are essential, preventative, diagnostic tools that provide valuable information not visible during a regular dental exam. Dentists use this information to safely and accurately detect hidden dental abnormalities and problem areas that could otherwise go undetected.

Professional dental cleaning – an essential component of preventative dental care. Regular dental cleaning keeps your teeth and gums looking good, feeling great and functioning well. It helps you achieve a brighter, cleaner, healthier smile.

Dental cleaning removes calculus, the hardened plaque that can become firmly attached to the tooth surface. Calculus forms above and below the gum line and can only be removed with special dental instruments. Professional dental cleaning also removes plaque which is a sticky, almost invisible film that forms on the teeth. It is a growing colony of living bacteria, food debris and saliva. The bacteria produce toxins that inflame the gum and lead to gum disease.

Fissure sealing – a sealant is a thin, clear or coloured resin placed over fissures or deep grooves on the biting surfaces of teeth, to prevent dental decay. Sealants are most commonly placed on newly erupted first permanent molar teeth.

Fluoride treatment – fluoride is a mineral that occurs naturally in all water sources. Research has shown that fluoride not only reduces cavities in children and adults, but also helps repair early stages of tooth decay, even before the decay is visible. Fluoride is the best cavity fighter to help keep your whole family’s teeth strong, no matter what age. If required, your dentist may apply fluoride topically to the teeth in the form of a gel or a mouth rinse.

Composite fillings – composite or ‘white’ fillings are used as a treatment for tooth decay, and also to repair a tooth that is cracked, broken or worn down. They are sculpted to create the original tooth shape and colour and restore strength to the tooth.

Crowns – a crown is a covering that encases the entire tooth surface and restores it to original shape and size. It protects and strengthens tooth structure and in the case of a heavily filled or weakened tooth, holds everything together and prevents any weakened pieces chipping off or cracking. Dental crowns made from ceramic, porcelain or porcelain bonded to metal are most common.

Fixed Bridge – a dental bridge is a fixed (non-removable) appliance used to bridge the gap created by a single missing tooth or multiple missing teeth. The gap is bridged by inserting an artificial tooth or ‘pontic’ anchored in place by attaching it to the teeth on either side of the gap, by placing crowns over the supporting or abutment teeth. Porcelain Veneers – these are tiny shells of tooth coloured porcelain, handcrafted by dental ceramists and permanently bonded to the front of teeth. They may also be used to correct uneven spaces or a gap, or lighten teeth that are naturally yellow and can’t be whitened by bleaching.

Teeth whitening or bleaching – this is a simple, non-invasive procedure using either carbamide peroxide or hydrogen peroxide to whiten the natural teeth. It is an ideal way to enhance the beauty of your smile. The procedure can be done at home using a bleaching material in a specially designed tray which fits like a mouthguard and constructed to fit your teeth accurately.

Bonding – this is a procedure where special tooth coloured composite resin material is applied to the tooth, sculpted into shape, then hardened using a dental curing light, which permanently bonds the material to the tooth. The material used is colour matched, shaped and polished to blend with the surrounding teeth, so that the bonded tooth will look extremely natural.

Dental implants replace a missing tooth with a titanium post placed in the jawbone, topped with a crown, bridge or denture. Unlike a removable denture, the result is fixed in place and functions like a natural tooth.

Braces – fixed orthodontic appliances, or braces, as they are more commonly known, consist of brackets, bands and wires and are used to move teeth into their desired position. Braces are bonded to the surface of the teeth for the duration of the orthodontic treatment.

Invisalign® Treatment System – Invisalign® is a virtually invisible treatment that uses an innovative approach to gently yet effectively straighten your teeth. Invisalign® consists of a series of clear plastic aligners or trays that fit closely over your teeth and gradually move your teeth into the desired position.

The aligners are designed using a combination of 3-D modelling software and cutting edge, custom manufacturing technology. Aligners are manufactured for each individual patient and move the patient’s teeth, little by little, until teeth are straightened into the final position prescribed by your dentist.
